Optical illusions are SO COOL, and sand art is also cool… we’re combining two of my favorite things into ONE craft tonight! It’s been almost an entire year since we’ve done sand art, I can’t believe it, since it really is, in my mind, one of our more relaxing and compelling crafts. How does it work, you ask?

Peel off the special laser cut paper to expose the sticky side, and sprinkle colored sand onto it. That’s all you do, and after peeling back more paper and pouring more sand, you get a really trippy multicolored far out abstract pattern suitable for framing! You get Op Art, a la the checkered, stripey, explody graphic-laden pattern style visuals that hit peak popularity in the mid-1960s.

You can then take things to the next level and glue some sparkly things to it, or leave it as is. If you topple into a rabbit hole of analysis and rationality… we support that, but we can’t guarantee that we’ll be successful in fishing you out, so regulate your artistic charisma accordigly.

That’s right: Cocktails and knives together again for PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT!

You’re gonna have to bring your own pumpkin! Carve it up, leave the mess with us, rejoice at your orange masterpiece!

I’m bringing a few pumpkins, and you can purchase one, but I might run out, so be prepared! I have all the tarps, blades, candles and bits for you to carve a pumpkin, so get over here and carve a face in a squash! This is a fine, traditional get-together with A-list Angelenos who know how to have Halloween fun. As we near All Hallow’s Eve, your glowing hollowed pumpkin bedecked with interior candle will let passersby know you are feelin’ the season.

We want you to be prepared for Mardi Gras, which is why we’ve got some clever disguises for you. Wear one of these DIY masks, and next day, your boss can’t accuse you of being the one in the middle of the fray, shaking your moneymaker, showing your bits and drinking with abandon. Paint and decorate it any way you wish, and then get out there, explore the world as another being, as someone or something else, unhindered by the confines of your regular identity.

Because with the disguise you wear, you are free, and no one can tell who you are, or what your job is, or what you love, or how you do your life, or what you’ve got in your wallet. There will be contrition and regret at times, but Fat Tuesday is not one of them. Fat Tuesday is for yelling “F*CK YOOOO!!!!” as loud as possible when they tell you to get off the table. Fat Tuesday is for eating ALL the donuts and being goddamn proud of it.

Mardi Gras is the largest masked party in North America, we don’t want you to miss it. Wear your mask for ritual, for celebration, for the love of art and pageantry and showing off. Wear your mask in order to overturn conventions with style.

A Rip-roarin’ rustic craft project awaits you this week, one you can really sink your teeth into, one that’s pretty ingenious, thanks to Vero Lebron, who will be leading this week’s CraftNIght! She will take you through the steps to help you make the coolest note holder YET. You’ll be turning an every day object into a fabulous note holder!

Paint it, decorate it, put a magnet on the back of it, voila, your snappy trappy note holder will hold all of those annoying loose papers in the kitchen! It’s a spot for receipts, a place for wayward postcards, you can keep one on your desk to keep track of forms!

Also, the S’more Gnome will be with us this Wednesday evening, making sure your sweet tooth is well-attended and given enough marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate. Nothing says summer fun like s’mores! You can tell everyone you went camping and you never went outside. If you TRY our “archery” game and you get a bullseye, you will a FREE DRINK!!!
