Rainbow Button Fish Tableau • May 6th, 2015

This week we’ve got a craft kit trophy even your staunch republican family will appreciate! It looks like you hunted this fish all by yourself and mounted it on your wall! It’s made from craft foam and colorful buttons, easy to put together, but looks really complicated like it took you three days!

Fool people into thinking you’re one of those people who is out on the water by 5am tackle box in hand. Point at your button fish wall hanging and tell a fishing tail of how it really gave you a rough time, it was like Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea” struggling beyond all belief until you reeled it in! Nobody will be the wiser, since we live in a city and people think that cows are goats!

And on that note, I’ll say that I’m actually typing this email yards away from Lake Tahoe, on my honeymoon!!! I’m very far away!!! A big thank you to all crafters who helped with wedding decorations for the last 3 CraftNights!!!

Jointed Knights! • April 8th, 2015

TONIGHT!!! April 8th, 2015 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Jointed Knight!
$3 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Specials, cocktails for your countenance!

Game of Thrones is coming up, the latest season. Knowing such a thing, I jumped at ordering us some brave cardboard-foily knights with jointed limbs! You can assemble them according to recommendation, or do what is not recommended and still get something fabulous! You can develop your own armor for your clan and make banners for it, march around the house while drinking flagons of ale, watching HBO!

Weirdly, upon arrival, I noticed that each kit comes with decor for your knight, and ALL of the kits come with red crosses.

Now… it is historically accurate if you consider the crusades and all of that business going on back in the day, but it doesn’t really fit with the Game of Thrones “fantasy medieval” aesthetic. No matter, we think you can include and edit your project however you like.

You can shorten your cross so that it’s more of a “International Red Cross” foreign aid knight, or leave it off, or use it, it’s really up to you, but just so you know, CraftNight is not religious in any shape or form. CraftNight is CraftNight, so you know, make your own kind of music, sing your own special song.

EXTRA CRAFT: Tissue paper flowers for the upcoming WEDDING RECEPTION! From this point until the April 22nd, every CraftNight will be making tissue paper flowers for the festivities (in addition to that week’s craft of course)! You’re invited to help us out! Come and volunteer your hand at an old art!

Bunny Necklace and EGG HUNT! • April 1st, 2015

Want to find an egg with a TREAT in it? I hope so, because I’ve got some treats, and I got some eggs, and we’ll have a small auxiliary spring time game for you to play. An egg is waiting for each crafter, and what’s in it will be a token of CraftNight’s appreciation just for you!

Our main craft is an Easter bunny necklace that will be a hit at any Easter appointment you’ll be attending this Sunday. Spring is for bunnies, lambs and chicks, it’s for tiny shoots of grass and puffy clouds, and blue skies! It’s for cleaning out your spice cabinet, getting rid of old stuff in your drawers and getting new spiffy clothing for running around outside! You can officially pack up all that cold weather stuff, LA is warming up and gearing up for funshine.

On to tonight’s Craft!

Oooh, these little foam animal kits are just adorable. Make one and hide it in a friend’s abode or workplace where it will surprise and delight them to no end! This is an assembly craft, where you either assemble the parts according to instructions, or you don’t follow instructions at all and just make whatever the heck you want and have a great time. Some of the animals are bona fide creatures we know and love in our world and some of them are dragons. They are small: perfect for glove compartments, desks, backpacks and dashboards.

Jumbo Clothspin • January 21st, 2015

This week’s craft is a long time coming, I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do a jumbo clothespin craft, but jumbo clothespins are not cheap! Many times I’d lament the price and go “Ho Hum… someday.” Well SOMEDAY IS NOW!!!

CraftNight Lieutenant Vero LeBron and I found a shopping cart FULL of the things at discount prices in FOUR different colors! Such a thing is not likely to happen for quite some time, it’s not easy to find reasonably priced jumbo clothespins in the wild.

So what the heck do you do with these things? Well you decorate them! Then you keep stuff clipped together with them, like notes or cards or whatever. Some people get all crazy and actually mount the things upside down on a wooden bar on the wall so that they have a handy place to hang office papers or paintings that need to dry. Makes a very attractive photo holder also, sits on a table nicely!

You can cut letters out of felt and glue them onto your jumbo clothespin, you can stick gems and baubles to it, make pretty shapes from fabric or paper, or just draw all over it with permanent marker. As a bonus, you can use the jumbo clothespin to hang up any jumbo laundry you have around the house.
