Project: Springtime Windchime
$2 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Special: “The Lyla” • Those who have no time for exercise will have time for a Lyla!

10 Ways your CraftNight Wind Chime Will Totally RULE YOUR FACE:

1.) Your CraftNight wind chime will tell you when it’s WINDY, that’s the first way it’ll rule your FACE.
2.) Then your wind chime will be really goddamn awesome because YOU painted it, how’s THAT for ruling your face? YEAH!
3.) Then your totally amazing CraftNight wind chime will rule your face because you HANG IT SOMEWHERE THAT RULES so people will see it. Near your FACE!
4.) When visitors see your CraftNight wind chime in front of your place, or inside your place, and they eat a complimentary bowl of cereal that you made them, the wind chime will make them feel so GOOD that they’ll wash their own dish and not put it next to the sink, they’ll turn into a DIFFERENT KIND OF NICE PERSON… which rules your face.
5.) The wind chime will make sounds that neighbors will hear, and instead of cutting each other off with their bicycles, cars, buses and personal roller skates, they’ll HUG. Rules your face.
6.) Your wind chime will RULE YOUR FACE because you’ll get a text that the pizza’s on its way and the pizza really will arrive when it says it will, no lie. Like NO ONE will be late texters all day.
7.) The interesting and made-by-you wind chime will inspire people who haven’t even seen it to begin understanding some of nature’s secrets which, in turn, will rule your face.
8.) The crap of the world will melt away if you give the wind chime a chance, if you just stop being suspicious and worried it’ll just rule your face and that’s okay.
9.) Corporations don’t care about raising prices and thinking you make more money than you do because they know nothing about you or reality or what’s actual, and you won’t care about them either because your face will be ruled by your new creation, your CraftNight wind chime, and you’ll put on some Kool and the Gang, and things will be fine.
10.) The new CraftNight wind chime that you make will rule your face because honestly, why would it not?

Flower Power Recipe Holder • May 7th, 2014

soundgeese

This Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Flower Power Recipe Holders
$2 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Special: “The Lyla” • For fast fast fast relief!

Mother’s Day is around the corner! This craft is highly malleable, you can give it to Mom or whoever sang “Itsy Bitsy Spider” to you 40,000 times when you were small and requested it endlessly. Or give it to whoever kept you from eating the second caterpillar. Or give this gift to whoever picked you up at the party and didn’t say a word, just got you home safe while your mind tried to comprehend how making a typewriter out of leaves and mud isn’t practical. This flower power recipe holder is a way to say “Thank You” to that person, a person who has had your back for a long time, knows who you are and, like many people: enjoys cooking and eating.

Because what bonds us like FOOD? That whole “breaking bread” thing is super real, food and love are linked, like it or not. Sharing and social exchange was born out of our ancestors having an abundance of food from hunting and farming, and sharing it. This repeated sharing had our bodies harboring a gut-brain connection (hormones, hippocampus, memory) connecting our last really good meal with survival. And this is why even TODAY when you smell “HillBilly Surprise” if that was a specialty made for you when you were little and you loved it, you STILL respond to it like it was yesterday and you want it, no matter how many people are like “REALLY?” It means survival, it means love. Look at your favorite meal, look at someone you love and your dopamine levels rise, it’s crazy.

Index cards will be on hand to write some recipes, then you clip it to the recipe holder you just made and BLAM-O, instant fabulous gift. For instance, you could pack a jar full of dried beans and spices and then give the recipe for what to do with all of it (chili? drunken beans? BBQ beans?)  and tie the recipe holder thinger to it and it’s a pretty cool gift. This little kit is super simple to assemble, and if you don’t like the whole “recipe holder” thing, it can also hold a photo, a note, a name card, you name it!

Fiesta Sun Catchers! • April 30th, 2014

vaquera_caliente

This Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Fiesta Suncatchers
$2 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Special: “The Lyla” •  Inexpensive. And Built to Stay That Way.
EXCITING MUSTACHE GIVEAWAYS and SALSA MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG!!!

When you live in a city that was named by Spaniards, was a part of Mexico for 27 years and is today host to huge Mexican American and Central American populations… it’s time to Cinco de MAYOOOOOOO!!! And it’s time for CraftNight to make fiesta sun catchers! Plop painty blobs of color into plastic frames of maracas, piñatas, cactuses and sombreros! You can also get a stick-on mustache, or a grape-flavored wax one while supplies last!

If you want to know why your Mexican friends aren’t into Cinco de Mayo or think it’s weird that you’re celebrating, odds are that they aren’t from Puebla, Mexico, but from practically anywhere ELSE in Mexico celebrates Mexican Independence Day on September 16th.

We’re celebrating instead the very specific and incredible victory of The Battle of Puebla by Mexico over French forces in 1862. In a very unlikely scenario, 4,500 Mexican soldiers fought back 6,500 well-armed French militia, which was, believe me, after all the crap Mexico had been through in the last few years, A BIG DEAL.  It was kind of that situation where France was supposed to be Godzilla, and Mexico was supposed to be Bambi and it was the opposite, at least that one time it was pretty awesome for Mexico. Naturally, this holiday is still a BIG DEAL in the city of Puebla, Mexico, where all of this went down. But other than that, Cinco de Mayo is pretty much a north of the border thing. Cinco de Mayo has been called “The Mexican St. Patrick’s Day” which is more about celebrating and enjoying the Mexican way of life, not necessarily recalling that one specific battle.

And it’s true, north of the border we tend to do things differently. Maybe you’ve noticed that brands like Tobasco, Jose Cuervo, Wholly Guacamole and HERDEZ have been more available for your Cinco de Mayo needs in recent years? They would like to give you the opportunity to enhance shared meaning with your community. These commercially produced products are hoping that you’ll purchase them liberally to help shape identities and traditions for yourself and your family. Are you going to disappoint them? In any case, do you actually NEED a reason to party? Whether it’s yes or no, be advised: there is a lime shortage, so if you’re getting all up in your margarita shopping list, keep that in mind.

Sassy Spring Sand Art • April 23rd, 2014

unirainabutterkitty

TONIGHT! Wednesday, April 32rd, 2014 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Sassy Spring Sand Art!
$2 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Special: “The Lyla” Where Hospitality Meets Your Face!

Sand art oh sand art, how do I love thee, your colorific dilemma of granules so chaotic yet glorious! All vacuums bow down to your grainy dotty sparkly wonderment! Sand art is SO EASY. All of CraftNight’s crafts are traditionally undemanding, but this one really takes the cake, you just peel back to expose the surface you want covered with sand, and then pour sand on it, keep doing that… and pretty soon you have a full-on pretty picture!

Come on over and experience the joy of sand art!

FYI, Bill Cole’s Bday party starts at 7pm tonight, just sayin…
