This week marks a brave and spirited RETURN from the dreaded flu! Ugh it was so terrible, but NOW we’re back and ready to reboot for February!

I bring you: a string-wire craft that you can hang anywhere you like! It’ll catch love dreams, and make metaphorical love cookies for you and your world.

Matters of the heart come up in February. Some people like this, some people don’t like this. Love is complicated. But all hearts have dreams, all hearts have goals, even if they are unknown to the brain. In this case, with this craft, we focus on your heart’s desire.

Do you desire work? Do you desire play? Do you desire a way of living that has eluded you, or an exploration you’ve never considered? Does your heart yearn for newer questions, or a return to some of the known ways and methods of doing life? Does your heart wish for fervor, wide open spaces, cozy pillows, or a very warm hot tub while the snow falls? All of it?

Many have been quick to embrace the age-old, pissed off viewpoint that Valentine’s Day was invented by corporate offices to sell landfill items to guilty romance participants. And if that is the case… does it make you that angry? Or is the indignant posture towards the corporations just another way to shield your heart from finding its true love? To be clear, humans have been screwing things up for over 21 thousand years, so honestly, who CARES if there’s a corporate angle on love, one cannot honestly be surprised. Corporations are a weak adversary to love, they are nothing compared to your own intricate, passionate thought system.

What am I saying? Let’s get out of our own way and have some lovin’ fun this month.

NO CRAFTS THIS WEEK • Jan 30th, 2019

NO CRAFTS TONIGHT! • Wed. Jan 30th, 2019 • FLU!!!

Well, we started off so fine, with a protest poster painting party, and winter crafts, and then… flu. It’s a doozy, this illness, I am on day 12, and each day is a little better, but I’d like to make sure I’m fully healed before getting back to runnin’ things.

CraftNight WILL RETURN on February 6th with vim and vigor, quality and hospitality, and of course, colorful puffballs, shiny gems and sparkly doodads at your service.

Meanwhile, if you have developed a sore throat and head congestion, GET THAT REST as best you can. If you have what I and many others have caught, it is a devious little morphing virus. Changing its symptoms and fooling you into thinking it’s waning, this nefarious infection can flatten you with a last-minute surprise attack of muscle aches, fatigue, and debilitating throat pain.

The CDC reports that Flu is widespread for the Los Angeles area right now so: Watch yourself, wash yer hands, get yer rest, drink yer juice, Shelby.

Tonight! Winter Welcome Craft! What’s that exactly? It’s these things I ordered online thinking “those are cool, I like those” and they got here and… they’re not just cool, they’re WONDERFUL! It’s a happy accident, this craft is kinda like a wreath thingy that’s snow-themed so it’s for the solstice, and it’s still butt-cold outside, so it’s quite relevant to our life and times. No, we aren’t the east coast, but we DID just have four days of showers, and it’s still a bit nippy out for these parts!

In my stead tonight, hosting CraftNight, will be CraftNight Lieutenant, Lucy! She’ll hand you your supplies to get started and there will be a fine assortment of other baubles and bits to make your winter craft uniquely yours! Hang it on the door, hang it on a car, hang it anywhere you want to brighten someone’s winter snowflake cozy feelings!

Protest Poster Party for Women’s March 2019 • Jan 16th, 2019

This week, CraftNight opens its doors for Teachers who need to refresh their strike signs, as well as people prepping for the LA Women’s March happening in DTLA this upcoming weekend (JAN 19th).

We’ll have ALL the sign supplies for you to use, from markers to paints, cardboard etc. so that you can show your displeasure with the DUMBNESS of the LA Unified School District, the wall-obsessed non-negotiator cheeto in chief, and many other items in the catalogue of terrible currently crumbling the city and the nation.

There are so MANY reasons to march, so many reasons to make a sign, like:

First CraftNight of 2019 • Jan 9th, 2019

CRAFTNIGHT! AKBAR! • Wed. Jan 9th, 2019 • Fanceh Boxes! • $3

We’re BACK! It’s been a lovely hiatus, with soups, stews, wintry weather movie watching, and glorious, well-earned NAPS! Our first craft of 2019 is FANCY BOXES! Awhile ago, on my uncharted expeditions through the crafting countryside, I found a BUNCH of tiny little hinged boxes: unpainted! EXCITEMENT!!! There were so many different kinds! I scooped ’em UP! Some of them have rounder lids, others have a small screen lid, some are streamlined and modern, others are more complex. They’re ADORABLE and they’re also DURABLE! I’ve got 24 of these tiny beauties, perfect for storing small treasures.

There will be paint, and gems, and other types of decor for you to use in customizing your box to your heart’s content. It’s the perfect little gift to make and give to a friend, put a little treat inside! Or: Keep for yourself! Put your ring in it, or store your earrings, or keep it full of orange TicTacs for when you want to impress guests. Guests are almost ALWAYS impressed by orange TicTacs, especially in abundance.

What a thrill to see you again, in a new year, full of possibilities and beginnings. Remember that, while it is a new year, best not to get TOO sensible in hitting all those targets of practicality. Spontaneity, curiosity, and being kind are often eschewed as being kind of “not sensible” in our world of planned and expected protocol. In other words, make the phone call, say yes to the unplanned coffee with a friend, walk/ride/drive/fly home a different route, consider what lies behind hesitation, and strive to trust some of those impulses you have. What is truly possible? FIND OUT!
