Pumpkin/Coffin Crossroads • October 9th, 2013

ghost_knight

This Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 from 9pm ’til  midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!
Project: Mini Papier Maché Pumpkins and Coffins
$2 Processing Fee, Please
$4 Cosmo Drink Special! The Akbar Cosmo: Fall in love with cocktails all over again!
Special Guests: The Ukelele Orchestra of the Western Hemisphere (’round 10 or so…) will serenade us!
Gothtober is HERE! Visit right now, from your desk, 31 days, 31 artists counting down the days to Halloween!

For some, Halloween is pumpkins, candy, changing leaves, haystacks, the scent of fermenting apples and the rich harvest of fall. And for some, Halloween is all about monsters, decay, dread, the freakish unnatural and macabre underworld brought to light to wreak havoc on society. Perhaps you enjoy a bit of the features both, but this Wednesday you’ll be faced with CraftNight crossroads! A decision must be made.

You’ll get to pick which lovely mini container to paint and decorate. Do you want a jovial pumpkin container, or a somber mini coffin container? These are so well made, I was very delighted to find and collect them for you. These keepsake boxes will hold about a handful of M&Ms or candycorn. They are the perfect receptacle for holding secret notes, small gifts or whatever you feel like hiding in plain sight.

So come on in, bring a friend, be eerie, goofy, creepy or autumny, the weather’s supposed to cool down so that you can wear that sweater you bought on clearance last year.

See you at the Craft Table,

Egg Carton Eyeballs, Bats and Pumpkins! • October 2nd, 2013

party_fare

This Wednesday, October 2ndm 2013 from 9pm ’til  midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!
Project: Egg Carton Eyeballs, Bats and Pumpkins (and whatever else you can think of!)
$2 Processing Fee, Please
$4 Cosmo Drink Special! The Akbar Cosmo: Come to where the flavor is.

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells,
That first line up above was wrote by Keats
Gothtober’s launched and so far it’s gone well.
Iambic pentameter’s got the beats

From egg cartons we’ll make some eyes and bats
With the hot glue, if you are not a bumpkin
With our pipe cleaners you could craft black cats
And craft a lovely double-sided pumpkin

What else is happening in Autumn’s wake?
Two ladies have a show for girls and guys’s
To Pat & Charlie yourself you should take
And watch them fill the night with song surprises!

Acorn Leaf Craft • September 25th, 2013

promo_tigrrr

This Wednesday (TONITE!) from 9pm to midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Acorn Leaf Freeform Craft!
$2 Processing fee, please
$4 Cosmo Drink Special! The Akbar Cosmo: So Delicate. So Beautiful.
SPECIAL EVENT THIS SATURDAY 6 – 10pm: The SparkleBlob Spooky-Tacular Harvest Gala!!! (Bob Baker Marionette Theater)
See David LeBarron, Ian MacKinnon, LaMuff, Pat & Charlie, a string of very special performances and Gothtober Reels, MC’d by none other than Jean Natalia of Wig Out! Dress in your Autumn Best to Win King or Queen of the Event! SparkleBlob is the new nonprofit that houses CraftNight, Gothtober and the Holiday Puppet Show and other fine programs under one roof, run by me, your Craft Captain, aka “Executive Sparkle Director.” Hope to see you there!

Now then. Acorns.
I ordered a box of 35, which seemed like a lot of acorns at the time. But acorns are small, and I knew that… but when they got here, they looked even smaller. Which means that 35 acorns is actually not that many acorns.

That’s why I’m also pairing it with leaves, to make it so that you can build a very adorable fall ornament-like garland, or something to put on a fall birthday present, or wear around your neck as a totem to daylight savings… I dunno. Acorns are very small, leaves are useful in making them stand out and be celebrated.
You can paint the tops of them so that they look like little smurf mushrooms. There are a lot of people out there making fabulous things out of acorns right now. We will explore some of these exciting options! I will also bring some spools, you can make acorn people with spool bodies. Acorns are small and cute. This is the last fall craft before we get TOTALLY IMMERSED IN HALLOWEEN MADNESS.

And yes, we will be sampling another strange seasonal product, if you want to find out what it is, please come in and have a sip.

See you at the Craft Table,

sb_gala_large

Dear CraftNight Enthusiast,

(See below, on the left, to find out tonight’s craft!)
CraftNight is now in its 11th year, and having developed quite a few more programs such as Gothtober.com and the Annual Holiday Show, I’ve decided to go non-profit to make these efforts more sustainable and long-lasting. I’ve decided to build SPARKLEBLOB, an umbrella for all programs to go under so that they may continue and thrive. SparkleBlob is having a FUNDRAISER this September 28th (6pm – 10pm)  in the form of The SparkleBlob Spooky-tacular Harvest Gala, and YOU are invited!
It’s our way of saying “Happy Fall” to you, and all proceeds are going to help SparkleBlob become an official nonprofit and stage our annual amazing holiday puppet show!

The family friendly evening will be hosted by the HIstoric Bob Baker Marionette Theater and you’ll experience:

  • The Good Time Cupcake Paper Owl Craft
  • Our Gothtober Reel Showcase of Fall Favorites
  • Performances by Ian MacKinnon, LaMuff, Pat & Charlie, David LeBarron and more!
  • The Autumn Royalty Costume Competition (dress in your Autumnal best and WIN!)
  • Free libations
  • Inexpensive eats
  • Live Music

Won’t you join us? Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. Reserve your spot today!

Meanwhile, see you at the Craft Table, the craft is delightful Fall Frames, just in time to give someone for the Autumnal Equinox! Comes with foam leaves, owl and acorns!
