NO CRAFTS THIS WEEK • Jan 30th, 2019

NO CRAFTS TONIGHT! • Wed. Jan 30th, 2019 • FLU!!!

Well, we started off so fine, with a protest poster painting party, and winter crafts, and then… flu. It’s a doozy, this illness, I am on day 12, and each day is a little better, but I’d like to make sure I’m fully healed before getting back to runnin’ things.

CraftNight WILL RETURN on February 6th with vim and vigor, quality and hospitality, and of course, colorful puffballs, shiny gems and sparkly doodads at your service.

Meanwhile, if you have developed a sore throat and head congestion, GET THAT REST as best you can. If you have what I and many others have caught, it is a devious little morphing virus. Changing its symptoms and fooling you into thinking it’s waning, this nefarious infection can flatten you with a last-minute surprise attack of muscle aches, fatigue, and debilitating throat pain.

The CDC reports that Flu is widespread for the Los Angeles area right now so: Watch yourself, wash yer hands, get yer rest, drink yer juice, Shelby.

We’re havin’ a lil’ ring-ding, with vendors and cocktails and treats! I’ll have paints and wooden ornaments for you to decorate! Cocktails and music and the final CraftNight of 2018 will welcome you heartily with hugs and winter joy.

I do love a wintry gathering, with people like yourself milling about, talking together, meeting one another anew or in fond reacquaintance. I’ll put a log on the fire (or at least turn the switch on the artificial fire I’ll bring to the festivities, lol.)

Well if it isn’t time for an Ornament Jam, I don’t know what is! Come on over and make an ornament for the tree, for a friend, for a loved one, for yourself! We’ll have the regular sparkles and puffs, as well as joyful merriment and plenty of cocktails to warm you up! Painting? YES! Jems? YES! Hanging ’em up and admiring them? YES YES YES!!!

If holiday stress and weirdness starts to cramp your style, just remember that in the end, your heart will outlast the ripples of your thought. The glorious sediment of who you are is always settled and sleeping beneath all the agitation of everyday irritants and mundane to-do lists. You ARE the ornament on the tree just like you’re the fizz in the drink!

In the midst of the seasonal brambles, don’t forget to give to yourself the gift of you, and when you’re ready: pass it on!

It’s togetherness, the sound of your voice, listening to someone, holding hands, memories, reaching out, a postcard, a phone call, a meal, truth and soul… these are what we all need for each other this December and always.

We can’t have you standing there just holding candles in your HANDS like a dork for Hanukkah, can we? One needs a proper menorah for such things. I mean, we’re not animals. To make sure you’re not creating any seasonal faux pas for the festival of lights, I give you, PASTA MENORAHS!

That’s right, featuring the finest in macaroni and lasagna products, fashion for yourself a candelabrum suitable for holding eight Hanukkah candles, plus the shamash (the extra ninth one in the middle you use to light the other candles). And if you’re not celebrating Hanukkah, you’ll still have an awesome candle holder you can use for any occasion made of pasta!

Make your pasta menorah, then dress it up with paint, glitter glue, gems, stuff I have layin’ around, you know, the crafty bits! And then, commmencing on December 2nd, you’ll be ready to light candles, eat fried food, gamble (dreidel), go to parties, and create a bit of light in the darkness of winter.

It’s gonna rain tonight, but nothing’s keeping me from hosting a lovely evening of gluing lasagna noodles to rigatoni pieces! Come on over, we’ll warm you up with a lil’ rainy day cocktail.
