The Greek word for “invincible” is “adamas” and the word “diamond” also came from the word “adamas” and the (very shiny pretty) diamond is the birthstone of April which means that the (practically invincible) diamond is YOU! CraftNight is here for you to manifest your goals and aspirations, your strength and your power though the dramatic and engaging power of bean and pasta mosaics. Make a likeness of your personal totem, your favorite snack, symbols that motivate you, creatures that  energize you, your family crest.

I’m also launching April’s NEW PIN! This one’s a doozy, not for the faint of heart, and terrifically weird. Where last month’s pin was a pressed shamrock for March, a sweet and cheerful traditional seasonal portrait, this one is just plain bizarre, and I can’t really say what inspired me to design it. It’s yours during the month of April 2013, never to be duplicated. Come in and get one while they’re HOT!

Greek legends, when you get down to it, are just stories reciting a series of complicated errands and woeful miscommunication. For instance, the goddess of agriculture (Demeter) departs the land searching frantically for her daughter, Persephone, who is hanging out with her overly possessive boyfriend, Hades, in the underworld. This happens year after year, where everything wilts and dies because Demeter drops everything when her daughter departs to the infernal regions, but makes the land bloom beautifully when Persephone is up here with us. Persephone was tricked by Hades into eating 6 magic pomegranate seeds that require her to spend 6 months out of the year in earth’s downstairs living room. Ultimately, it kind of means that Persephone is a giant pain in the neck, Hades is a tool, and Demeter is a total Helicopter Parent. But whatever, Persephone’s here now, you can see it in the colorful blooms around our city!
Which brings me to the FLOWER FOTO holder, Ladybug frames and other sundry items for you to pick from at tonight’s CraftNight. The first project is a wooden one, with a flower-shaped clip suitable for holding notes or a photograph of you or someone else having the most fun in the whole world. The other project is a ladybug foam frame, and I’ve only got three of these, so if that’s what you want, you better get in here quick! And if I somehow run out of flower foto holders and ladybug frames, there will be more!

Get out the pot o’ gold toilet paper holder and unfold the rainbow tablecloth it’s just about time for St. Patrick’s Day! Time to kiss the Blarney Stone, and no, you don’t have to go all the way to Cork, Ireland for the kissin’ you can stay right here. Your very own Blarney rock(s) to be painted at your whim are yours for the choosing. I bought a rather large bag of rocks, so please, for the love o’ Mary get in here and PAINT one (or some) because I don’t want to drag them back home! You can ALSO make a lollipop ghost! Why the heck are we making lollipop ghosts in March? Ghost Hunters of Urban Los Angeles (GHOULA) are visiting us, and they’ll be searching for spooky stuff! You might hear a ghost story, you might sense something paranormal lurking near the paintings on the walls…

As if that wasn’t cool enough, The Ukelele Orchestra of the Western Hemisphere may drop by in a casual way around 10pm or so to strum a few favorite tunes and have cocktails and crafts with us!

The flu is OVER-with, finally, but in its wake, it’s left me a bit feduddled in my planning. Between now and tonight, I’ll scour the LA Basin for something fun and sassy for us to make! 12 years ago, this is how I did EVERY CraftNight, every week was a mad dash to try and find the theme for the evening. That was before I began to meticulously plan for months in advance on each project!
Tonight is momentous in that I’m following my former “old style” and whenever this happens, the evening’s offerings are always intriguing, if not downright deluxe in essence.
Top it off with the fact that now it is MARCH, and the very special NEW PIN will be making its debut tonight!

The report says its going to rain, but I’m starting to think that the weather report is attempting to will it to rain. By reporting rain, maybe there will be some, in other words. Rain or shine, come on over and see me, I’ll be hanging out in the warm and dry Akbar, with craft supplies, merriment and fun!
