May 19th, 2010 • Mini Personal JigSaw Puzzles

TONIGHT! May 19th, 2010 at Akbar, 9pm – midnight (or more) it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!

Project: Mini Personal JigSaw Puzzles

$2 Processing fee please

$4 Knock-your-socks-off cosmo drink special…

Personal Web Page. Personal Toothbrush. Personal Cell Phone. Personal Pizza.

Yep, we’re taking it personally tonight, we’re drawing and painting whatever our heart desires on PERSONAL JIGSAW PUZZLES. These little numbers are made of sturdy, quality white cardboard, and may be decorated until the cows come home. They are excellent for writing thank-you notes, complicated directions, extra-long math equations, paragraphs of untranslated Latin, portraits of peculiar relatives, maps to forgotten places, greeting cards for nimble friends, or you know, drawings of clumps of dinosaurs, like always.

So come in tonight, create an image or a written something-or-other, then turn it into pieces, and give it to someone to solve!

See you at the Craft Table,

May 12th, 2010 • METAL CRAFT

TONIGHT! May 12th, 2010 from 9pm until 12-ish at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!

Project: METAL CRAFT

$2 processing fee, please

$4 cosmopolitans to get you revved up

One of the all-time crowd-pleasing favorite crafts comes alive tonight! We shall be metal embossing, using copper foil and liver of sulphur oil to antique your creation! Make AMAZING relief portraits from CraftNight’s amazing collection of reusable plastic molds in the shape of various wild animals, historical-looking people, turn-of-the-century vehicles and MORE! For those of you who have done this before, I have some NEW molds, so come in and get crazy!

TRUE STORY: One of my crafters saw the very same craft he made at CraftNight, a relief portrait of a native american chief, on sale in an antique store for $20! I’m telling you, make one of these and sell it on Antiques Road Show, no one will ever know the difference!

Like all of our craft projects here at CraftNight, this project is very tactile, but it’s also a great introductory craft for newcomers. It mostly involves burnishing, polishing and then sanding with steel wool to get the final result. It’s a “metal shop” craft, requiring detail and patience, hallmarks of craftsmanship that anyone can learn!

We’ll be digging up some hair band music, a bit of metal here, a bit of metal there, old and new, so get ready to embrace your metal side!

See you at the Craft Table!

YOU CANNOT LOSE This Wednesday. YOU CANNOT!

Is CraftNight still $2?

Oh my goodness YES.

Currently, the lowest cost of a tank of crappy-quality gas in the Silverlake/Echo Park area is $2.97 CraftNight packs music, crafting, ambience and access to the friendliest cocktails in Silverlake all into one fun-filled night every week for LESS THAN A TANK OF CRAPPY GAS.

And what are we offering this week? You can’t lose, repeat: it is so great that you cannot, repeat, CANNOT lose.

This Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 from 9pm until 12-ish at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!

Project: Metal OR Wood, whichever works out

$2 processing fee, please

$4 cosmo special, you better believe it!

I ordered metal embossing supplies a little while ago… and I checked the package and the supplies are currently in Chino, with an estimated delivery of April 28th. IF somehow the metal supplies don’t show up, DON’T WORRY, we’ll just do that craft the week after Cinco de Mayo, no tears, no wailing, no strife.

Because here with me NOW that just came in unexpectedly and to my great delight is a box of thrilling little items. These are those little knickknacks where you press on the base of the toy, and (according to the weird catalogue description) the little animal on top “dances.” Personally, I think “dance” is a little bit of a demented description, in fact, it’s downright misleading because it really does seem to just sort of slump, not dance. Ridiculous. What they won’t say to sell stuff these days. I’m here to deliver the truth: Wooden SLUMPING animals!

But the thing is, slumping wooden animals are still exciting! These little toys are just so agonizingly cool because they are simple sanded wood, and you can paint and decorate them anyway you want!

So get in here, you can’t lose. No matter what we end up making, be it metal embossed relief-portraits of clowns and praying hands and locomotives OR really neat-o mini-slumping animal toys, it’s just going to be incredible.

April 21st, 2010 • Rainy Day Craft!

This Wednesday Night (TONIGHT!) April 21st, 2010 from 9pm until 12-ish or so, at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!

Project: Rainy Day Craft!

$2 Processing Fee, Please

$4 Magical Kooky Cosmo Drink Special!

It says “Pod Craft” on the CraftNight home page, it really really does. But it’s raining. I don’t feel like doing a pod craft. When you’re a Craft Captain, you’ve got to step out onto the deck, feel the sea air, look at the clouds and decide if it’s really time for a pod craft. I think instead we might be doing a craft that actually involves WARMTH tonight, because BRRRRRR! It’s been kind of cold!

So… you should come in, because we ARE DEFINITELY HAVING CRAFTS, just like last Wednesday, and the Wednesday before that and so on, but be ready for a little something special, because as usual, I’ve got something up my sleeve. It just doesn’t involve pods. Or does it? Hee hee hee!!!
