Last week I was out of town on holiday, and I FORGOT to set up the craft adequately before I left town. This means that last week, unicorns were not served up for last week as planned, my sincere apologies to my wife, Akbar and SparkleBlob staff, totally my snafu, ugh!

This means we’ll be making unicorn pins in the near future, so if you missed it, you’ll get another chance! But for NOW, we’ve got St. Patrick’s Day on the very near horizon, and we can’t have you without the proper celebratory baubles now, can we? Bring on the plastic precious gems!!!

We’ve got for you a shiny, sassy, beautiful and LUCKY bracelet featuring shamrocks! I’ll also have some other bead choices of other colors and shapes on hand for you to use, in case you want to incorporate some of the other colors of the rainbow besides green.

This weekend, it’ll be SparkleBlob’s seventh adventure handing out Super Sloppy Chili Cheese Dogs to runners of the Los Angeles Marathon!!! If you’ve got what it takes to wake up and do this around 6am on the corner of Temple and Edgeware (mile 5) contact me!

Later that same day I’ll be hosting Bet Yer Bottom Bingo, with big booze prizes, drink tickets and MORE! See info below!

See you at the Craft Table,

JP Craft Captain

PS – If you like this Stephen Hawking (Rest in Peace, Good Sir) LEGO photo at the top of this bulletin,  it’s totally a LEGO SET YOU CAN BUILD… but it’s out of stock indefinitely… but how cool is this?

Spring Bead Season • May 4th, 2016

This Wednesday April 27th, 2016 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!!!
Project: Spring Beads, Spring Beads!
$3 Processing fee, please
$4 Drink Specials at Akbar: You’re gonna like the way you look, we guarantee it.

Springtime is bead time, where you adorn yourself with the things that you like, the stylish trappings of who you are. A great place to stop in and make for yourself a bauble, a fancy trinket, a treat for your wrist or a beaded headband for your mind, a place to make all of this on Wednesday is Akbar. I’m breaking out the beads, and beads are deep. Beads are more than colorful or pretty, beads are us.

Beads have been around a looooooong time! People used them for currency! They were also used as anti-stress devices, you could hold onto your beads and think about your life. This bead technique still works today. Beads are used for devotional praying, and they make great game pieces if you make a home made board game! Beads are so cool that we’re pretty sure the reason we as humans developed language is because we wanted each other’s beads. We built systems of language based on economic bead wants and needs. The oldest beads are about 72,000 years old, which means that when you wear a bead, you are wearing the first self help device known to humans. But beads didn’t just help one, they helped everyone!

Beads were around before farming, before language, before tools and shelter. Beads helped us develop social technology! Working with beads is mega primal, you’ll be like “Why does this feel so natural for me?” Come on into CraftNight and do some social technology with us, your ancient ancestors would be so proud!

See you at the Craft Table!

JP Craft Captain

We’re Baaaaaack! • January 7th, 2015

This Wednesday January 7th, 2015 from 9pm until midnight (or later) at Akbar, it’s CRAFTNIGHT!
Project: Fusion Beads!
$3 Processing Fee
$4 Drink Special “The Lyla” it makes you Smile-la!

Oh my Gosh oh my Goodness oh my STARS I’ve missed you!

Please get in here and make a craft, please bring your friends, please let us not have another week without Crafts at Akbar! I’m starting it all hot and heavy with FUSION BEADS because FUSION BEADS are a good time. Seriously, if you walk into LA’s most posh restaurant bathrooms, you’ll see scrawled on the stall wall “For a good time, call Fusion Beads.”

It’s been so chilly lately, I wanted to do a heat-based, warm project. These mini cylindrical brightly colored pieces of plastic will be kluged together by your expert hand, and then I’ll melt your design with an iron so that they fuse. And once they’re fused, there ain’t any un-fusing them, and you can combine them into any kind of little trinket that you can have for yourself or give away, fusion beads really are the cat’s meow.

Also we’re choosing fusion beads so that we can FUSE our intentions for the new year! You are alive and walking and talking in a really rare way. You could’ve been a piece of salt. You could’ve been a piece of hair on an elephant’s derriere. You could be a 100 year old oak or a 3000 year old patch of sea water. Instead, you appear to be a person reading my writing on your screen, which is SUPER WEIRD, you’ve come a long way, baby.

The riddles we must solve to continue existence are always worthwhile by doing things that make us feel ALIVE. That’s is why I highly recommend that you come see us and let your soul swim around in the glitter at the very first CraftNight of 2015.

See you at the Craft Table,

JP Craft Captain
